Who are Milton's Habitat Stewards?

Milton Outdoor Classrooms has launched the Milton Habitat Stewards Program to certify  the Town of Milton as a wildlife habitat by the National Wildlife Federation (NWF). To accomplish this goal, many of our public outdoor spaces, including parks, schoolyard habitats (outdoor classrooms), libraries, and other buildings need to be certified as habitats for birds and butterflies. In addition, at least 150 residential properties need to be certified.

To help the town and residents certify their properties, Milton Outdoor Classrooms and NWF have trained their first class of Habitat Stewards in Milton. A group of 25 Milton residents participated in 24 hours of training over three Saturdays in April and are now mobilizing to assist in the town’s wildlife habitat community certification efforts. The training was made possible by a grant from EPA and was coordinated by Milton Habitat Steward Hosts Janet MacNeil and Mary Truslow, in partnership with NWF and the Boston Natural Areas Network (BNAN).
