All Eyes On Winter
Mrs. Giza’s second grade class at the Glover Elementary School read the poem All Eyes on the Pond by Michael J. Rosen. This poem is part of their Open Court Reading program. The poem invites the reader to imagine all the things happening in the pond. With this poem in mind, the students went into the Glover Outdoor Classroom to learn about winter and winter habitats. Each student was given an opportunity to take a picture of something in the outdoor classroom that captured their “peculiar human eye.” Then, each student was asked to write one sentence about something they saw or something they learned. Margaret Eberhardt, Glover Outdoor Classroom curriculum consultant, took each of the student’s lines and incorporated them into rhyming verse. The verses were then matched with a corresponding picture. The first line or lines are directly written by the students. The rhyming verse was added by Margaret Eberhardt. All the pictures in the book were taken by the students in the class. Click on the picture below to download a pdf file of the finished project. |
